The names of the five winners of the “International New Tango Ensembles Competition” / Tango Sin Fin Awards 2017 organized by Tango Sin Fin were announced last Saturday 18th February during the closing ceremony which took place at Centro Cultural Kirchner‘s Sala Sinfónica.
Orquesta Utópica (Rosario, Argentina), La Máquina Invisible (Rosario, Argentina), Dúo Sanchez-Martinini (Buenos Aires, Argentina), La Guardia Nueva (Buenos Aires, Argentna) and Sexteto Murgier (La Plata, Argentina) were the five winning ensembles chosen by the prestigious Jury integrated by Ramiro Gallo, Diego Schissi, Julián Peralta, Juan Carlos Cuacci and Gustavo Margulies, who attended the concerts held that same afternoon by the ten finalist groups who were originally selected for their musical approach which, taking from the genre’s fundamental stylistic elements, departed on a search for development, evolution and innovation through the performance of new arrangements and compositions.
The prize for the five winning ensembles included $30.000.-., counseling sessions with experts on group psychology and cultural management and a four camera HD video recording with a live audio mixdown of the concert held on Sunday 19th February at Centro Cultural Kirchner‘s Sala Argentina.
The International New Tango Ensembles Competition was created in 2016 by Tango Sin Fin, directed by Paulina Fain and Exequiel Mantega with the will of driving the development and interpretative quality of the new tango orchestras and ensembles and collaborating on their artistic and professional projection in Argentina and around the world. Its first edition received 57 ensemble entries coming from 9 different countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, US, The Netherlands, Belgium and Italy), who submitted their proposals under the condition of presenting at leat one video performing a piece by a living composer.
This competition was held as a part of the mini festival of concert performances of Tango Para Músicos 2017, the third edition of the intensive tango workshop organized by Tango Sin Fin, in which musicians from all around the world get together to study and share knowledge on the fundamental techniques for playing tango and Argentine music.
